Description
Located in the beautiful Elwha Valley, just 5 minutes drive from Spring Road and easy public access to the Elwha River, this 3 bedroom 1 full bath home has a unique history. Built in the 1930's, in what is now the Olympic National Forest, this cabin was built as part of New Deal to provide homes for people working in the area. In the 1970's the cabin was transported to its current location. It is now sited on a 1 acre property bordered on the west side by an unnamed creek and is close to the newly restored Elwha River. This cozy cabin is only 5 minutes from the public access to Lake Sutherland, and only 15 minutes west of Port Angeles, Washington.
In a truly beautiful setting, this home comfortably accommodates parties of 6-8 guests. As you enter the large cabin, you come into an open area with the dining room and kitchen to the left and the living room to the right. A stairway leads to the loft and master bedroom. At the back of the main floor are the guest bedrooms, full bathroom and the laundry room/mud room. The first guest room has 2 twin beds. The second guest room has a queen bed. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a king-sized bed, a thoughtfully engineered "electronics charging station" and recently added air conditioner. The TV has a HDMI cable available to hook up to your laptop and a DVD player. The loft has games, a reading nook and floor space to play or accommodate a couple extra guests in sleeping bags. Please call to arrange sleeping mats for additional guests. Additional guest charges apply. The loft looks down onto the living room where there is a comfortable seating area to gather by the warmth of the wood stove or enjoy the large flat screen smart TV. There is no cable or other TV service here, so bring your own Netflix or Amazon accounts or even just sit an talk. Limited rural internet; Hot spot (10 G/month, first come first serve). There is also a DVD player with this TV.
If you are looking for a home base to explore the North Olympic Peninsula, this history rich cabin on over 1 acre is the place you want to be. In the Elwha Valley you are framed by the Olympic Mountains where there are lots of popular hikes in the valley and surrounding area. The Olympic Hot Springs, Sol Duc Falls and Hot Springs, and Marymere Falls are close by and favorite destinations. Families with young children will love this rustic get away. Search the creek for crawdads. Visit Lake Sutherland for Kokanee fishing or water sports or take in the nearby Lake Crescent. There is plenty of parking on the property if you are bringing a boat and trailer. Don't miss the exquisite Makah Museum in Neah Bay or the Hoh Rain Forest, both in easy driving distance. Stop by Granny's Cafe, just down the road, for a country cafe dining experience. Be sure to leave room for pie! Enjoy evening fires and s'mores at the fire pit, and games on the large lawn area. Don't forget to stop at any of the local (Port Angeles) grocery stores or gas stations to get wood for the fire pit and wood stove.
Extended stay? No problem, the cabin is equipped with a washer and dryer in the laundry/mud room. There's plenty of room for meal prep in the kitchen with island. There is a full sized fridge, electric stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, electric kettle and brew coffee pot. There is a pantry for easy access to your groceries. The dining table has leaves to seat 6 at the table. We provide pots and pans, cooking utensils, plates, glasses, cups and utensils. We also provide bed and bath linens, paper products, shampoo and soap, and hair dryer. Bring you groceries, including your favorite spices, teas and coffees.
This beautiful retreat is perfect for hikers, bicyclers, families, explorers, fishing and hunting groups.

This is the cutest little house. It's very charming and cozy. The two bedrooms downstairs were perfect for our party. Loved having the twin bedrooms downstairs. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well appointed and the cabinets were labeled with their contents for ease of use. The TV was a little hard to navigate at first, but by pushing the Smart Hub button on the middle of the remote we found the Netflix. This was the perfect location for our stay. We went to Sol Duc hot springs two times during our stay. It's 45 minutes away. We are already planning another stay next year for my daughter's birthday-girls weekend getaway. Thank you!

It is a nice place. At about the central point to go to the main sightseeing spots of the Olympic National Park. A lot of space for a family of 4 or 5. Very clean. Wi-Fi is very fast. No cable TV.

This home is rustic but clean, everything worked fine, and the location was great. Not far to Port Angeles as well as Crescent Lake area to the west. Quiet lot - owl hoots and elk bugling were the main sounds at night.

What a great place! Clean, charming and lovely in every way. The kids enjoyed the swing and the delightful little stream out back (they even spotted some crayfish!), and the yard had loads of room for playing soccer. Inside was the perfect amount of space for our group of 6. Would definitely book again.

This is a nice cabin. All the main activities on the Olympic Peninsula, so there's a fair bit of driving to get to them, but I found this listing to be fairly centrally located. It took us 1.5 hours to get to the Hoh Rainforest and the same to get all the way to the coast. The yard is huge and great for croquet, frisbee, what have you. We saw deer every evening, which was cool. You can hear the river babbling from the upstairs room. That was probably my favorite part!

I don't think there was anything we didn't like about this home. Location: just 15 minutes from Port Angeles and the Lake Crescent area, 45 minutes from Hurricane Ridge. We found plenty to do without long drives. The property itself was very pretty - big yard, pretty flower gardens, nice little creek on the side. Cleanliness: totally clean, neat, organized Usefulness: had everything we needed in terms of space, storage, and kitchen. It was one of the best VRBO kitchens I ever had because it had all the tools I needed, was well-organized, had drawers and cabinets labeled so it was easy to find things, and had lots of room. I cook a lot on vacations, and this kitchen was perfect for me. Extras: this property had things that are often overlooked in rentals, but make the stay more comfortable. For example, the laundry room had soap and laundry baskets available. Basic toiletries in the bathroom. Empty shelves and cupboards in the kitchen so you could actually store the food you brought. Toys and games for the kids.

West of the Elwha was a great house - we stayed there with our two adult children, and we all had plenty of room to spread out and be comfortable. The kitchen was very well-stocked with dishes, pots and pans, and utensils, and we appreciated all the kitchen spices and basics that were provided. The kitchen was also very large which made it easy for all of us to work together in there. A couple of nights were a little warm, and we appreciated the fan that was provided to use in one of the downstairs bedrooms. The outdoor space was so pleasant and spacious with the fire pit area and the swing by the creek - loved it! We also enjoyed the hike that started at the end of the road that took us through the forest to the Elwha River. Great location with easy access to both Hurricane Ridge area and Lake Crescent. We hope to be back someday!

Somehow, it's better than the pictures! We enjoyed the quiet location, where the only noise you can hear is that of the adorable stream crossing the lawn. Very close to quite a few trails in Olympic, and fairly close to the town, in case extra supplies are needed. All appliances are very modern and the house is kept in great shape! Worth every penny!

Check-in was really easy, the cottage was very cozy and clean, and we loved the hot tub and fireplace. Firewood is stocked and ready to go. The cottage is on the same property as the owners' house but it feels very separated and private! The location is very conveniently located (we were able to travel to Sol Duc Falls, Port Angeles, and Port Townsend during our 2-night stay).
