Description
Situated on the north shore of Lake Sutherland, this property is a great "home base" for those exploring the North Olympic Peninsula, hiking the Elwah Valley or just looking to enjoy swimming, kayaking and fishing on beautiful Lake Sutherland. Nestled in the Olympic Mountains. Easy drive to Ocean Beaches and other points of interest like Salt Creek for low tide pool viewings, Makah Museum is a must see, Cape Flattery most NW point in the continental US, Ozette trail is a wonderful hike starting at Lake Ozette and to the Ocean then back up to Lake Ozette (9 miles). Also two entries to the Olympic National Park are near by, Sol duc Hot Springs and Hoh Rain Forest. Lake Cresent is a beautiful lake with an historic lodge for dining and a fun gift shop.
This old lake cabin has been recently renovated - updating the kitchen, bathroom and main living area. The upstairs bedroom has a queen-size bed and picture windows presenting a beautiful, wide view of the lake. Wake up in this spacious loft-like bedroom and the serenity of the lake before you. There is a flat screen smart TV in the bedroom, with a DVD player. You can enjoy your favorite movies by logging into your Netflix, Hulu or other online TV account, or by bringing your favorite DVD movies. There are a few DVDs at the cabin for your selection, too.
Downstairs on the main floor, there is also a double-size sleeper sofa set up as a permanent bed, with privacy draping, to accommodate guests for sleeping. The main floor living space is open-concept. The kitchen is updated with beautiful counters and an built-in electric stove top. There is a toaster oven and microwave, but no other baking oven. There is a drip coffee make and tea kettle for your favorite hot beverages. We provide dishes, pots, pans, cups, glasses, serving dishes and utensils. Please be careful about putting anything on the shelf above the glass topped stove! Bed linens, towels, soap, shampoo and some cleaning supplies are also provided.
The lake side of the room is banked by windows so that you always have a view of the lake. There is a large evergreen just to the left of the view. It is a favorite roost of one of the resident eagles at Lake Sutherland. The dining table sits in front of these windows for dining with a view. There is a love seat, adjacent to the dining space, creating a wonderful place relax and enjoy a good book or just stare out onto the lake. Please note that there are caution signs on the deck railing, please no climbing or leaning on railing.
NOTE: CABIN DOCK ACCESS CURRENTLY CLOSED TO GUESTS FOR REPAIR WINTER 2022-APRIL 2023 / GUESTS STILL HAVE LAKE ACCESS VIA THE PUBLIC BOAT LAUNCH LOCATED ON THE EAST END OF THE LAKE
The trails to the house and down to the dock at the lake are clear, but steep. Some agility is required. On the dock there are 3 kayaks for guest use. Paddles and life vests are in the boat house. The paddle boat on the right side of the dock is NOT functional. Please don't try to use it. Also the right side of the dock is for boat storage only ---safe, but not super stable for hanging out on. The left side of the dock can be used for hanging out and fishing. The dock sits right in front of a deep fishing hole. Wanting a fishing get away? Lake Sutherland is a great place to catch Kokanee (land-locked salmon). No live bait is allowed for fishing on Lake Sutherland, so bring your power bait or "wedding bells", "cowbells" or "spoons". Please be advised: All water activities are at your own risk.

This was a cozy spot to enjoy beautiful views of the lake between hikes in the Olympics. We especially enjoyed tootling around the lake in the kayaks. Just remember to bring your own drinking water.

Nothing but good things to say! The location is amazing, the beds are so comfortable, the kitchen has about any dish you could possibly want, there are plenty of extra towels and blankets - all around just a great place to stay!

Amazing location and view. Comfortable space with updated kitchen and bath. The rest of the cabin and furnishings have a slightly older feel, but still very comfortable and clean. The internet was not consistent. Otherwise a wonderful little cabin on the lake - would definitely recommend!

One of the most beautiful spots we have stayed at! Could not have asked for a better home and and view to come back to from all the hiking we did at Olympic National Park. We already want to go back!

This cabin is on a good location and well kept . Everything you need for your daily needs is there . The lake is very peaceful, the surroundings are beautiful. There are games, books, DVDs, Netflix available if you want to stay in and is close to many waterfalls and other lakes if you dont. I would gladly come back

Beautiful (seriously insane) view and cozy place with some modern updates, including a renovated kitchen. The dining table overlooks the lake and we watched the sunrise everyday drinking coffee. Clean and nice. In case youre considering cooking a turkey - there is no full size oven. But, theres a nice stove and a large toaster oven that roasted our veggies and potatoes perfectly.

Nothing bad to say about our experience The house was beautiful and clean. Amenities were nice. Although we brought our own toiletries (because of other places we have stayed) it was nice to see soaps and shampoos were available if we hadnt. Being right on the Strait of Juan de Fuca was absolutely beautiful! The sunsets were glorious! Highly recommend this house!

This cabin was excellent. It has a great view of the lake from the balcony and access to the lake from a private dock. There are even kayaks you can use. It's about 15-20 minutes from "civilization," so you can go to a fair amount of restaurants and shops to buy groceries and such. But it's also a few minutes from state parks, though depending on what trail you're wanting to get to, you might drive for a while in the park itself to get there. The cabin was also extremely clean for a cabin in the woods. There were no cobwebs and spiders in the cabin, which is something we've experienced in cabins like this one. We'd highly recommend this cabin!

The location was amazing with easy access to the park and great views of the lake/mountains. It was easy to go into Port Angeles for a meal or groceries. Outside of hiking and seeing the sites of Olympic National park our favorite part was jumping off the dock and swimming in the lake. Great place for families, would not recommend for anyone with mobility issues as the outdoor steps could be difficult for them.

Beautiful location and view from every window! This was a wonderful escape for our family (2 boys ages 12 & 14). Spent some time fishing on the dock (caught trout), enjoyed watching the clouds roll over the mountains from the living area, and cooked up breakfast and dinners in the week stocked kitchen. The beds and couch could certainly use an update, but everything else was a delight.

Great place with amazing views! The kitchen, bathroom, and deck have been beautifully updated. I enjoyed kayaking everyday the most, but be prepared for a steep hike down to the dock, and make sure you have 2 hands to help you get the kayaks back into the boathouse. The furniture and bedding could be updated, but were as expected. Central to many great nature spots (we visited Sol Duc Hot Springs and waterfall, Lake Crescent, Forks and La Push, Port Townsend, Marymere Falls, Hoh Rainforest, the Dungeness Refuge and the Spit, etc.)

Beautiful view, dock down at the water was a gorgeous spot to drink morning coffee on a crisp spring day. Nice location for activities. Easy 15 min to Port Angeles for dinner (basically the last town with food if you're going west) and just over an hour to Rialto Beach. Mount Storm King incredible hike just 10 min away. Perfect space for two of us. if you have three or four people, indoor couch and dining options would be less comfortable.
