Description

Welcome to Writers’ Retreat!  This one of a kind cottage sits perched on a hillside offering sweeping vistas. The view over Sequim Valley, historic Lotzgesell Farm and the Olympic Mountain range make it unforgettable. This property and home will give you the ultimate ‘Sequim’ experience!  Built in the 1920s, the cottage offers a wonderful country charm you just don't find in newer homes.  Local novelist Rachel Bard purchased this house in the 1950s, lived and wrote here, producing several novels.  The current owners  made a few of these books available for your reading pleasure.  Although it has since undergone extensive remodeling, the owners maintained the integrity of the home and the era when it was built.  South facing windows make this very cozy home bright and welcoming.  Details in the craftsmanship will take you back in time: warm rustic wood paneling throughout, charming tiled floors in the baths and turn of the century doors and knobs are some of the finishing touches that make this home special.  The cottage has a queen master suite with attached bath.  A queen room and bunk room with two twins share a nearby guest bath. This home sleeps four comfortably.  The living room's large bookcase offers a variety of novels and games for you to enjoy, plus a TV and WI-FI for movie night.  You will be drawn to the cozy window seat near the propane stove where you can catch up on your favorite novel or take pleasure in viewing the beautiful farmlands below.  A charming country kitchen with breakfast bar overlooks the valley and mountains. Additional entertaining space on the large back deck is peaceful and secluded, just perfect for your summer barbeque.  Outside you will find some unique landscaping including a beautiful towering madrona tree on the southwest corner of the house.  Be prepared to hear wild animal sounds from the nearby Olympic Game Farm, open for daily driving tours.  The cottage is centrally located for easy access to local parks and beaches, plus it is about 10 minutes to downtown Sequim.  A very popular area for bird watching, cycling, kayaking, and more.

Just the relaxing weekend my family needed before school started. The cottage was adorable and well set up.

We enjoyed the beautiful view and watching the eagles! We loved the view so much and we had a tea party in the yard. The beds were very comfortable. The location was close to walking trails, the game farm, and the lavender farms. The television could use an update but I would definitely stay here again.

A quaint, charming cottage with a stunning view. I was out on the back deck every possible minute. I just loved everything about this little house right down to the vintage doorknobs. It was a very safe, quiet area and the house was spotlessly clean. There were plenty of towels and supplies. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to the area.

The Writers Retreat is such a delightful spot. One of the best morning coffee perches Ive ever had is out on the back porch. The spot is easy to find, plenty of board games inside, many a bird to watch outside.

This property is perfect for a quiet getaway for a small family, friends to share, or just for one. It was very easy to find and just 15 minutes from Sequim downtown. The views to the south valley are spectacular. The home is very clean and well stocked for any meal preparation as well. A really great stay.

My friend and I loved staying here. The back deck view was the first thing we enjoyed in the morning with coffee and the last thing at night with a glass of wine. The eagles, coyotes and birds were a joy to watch and listen to. The cottage was very comfy cozy, furniture was rustic but comfortable. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. Good location to town without the town sounds. Good base for all the spots to exploreOlympic National Park, Sequim lavender farms, Port Townsend was an easy one hour drive (book the 4 hour whale watch tour!!)the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria close by, John Wayne Marina for a beautiful view and delicious seafood meal.Dungeness River wildlife preserve /Audubon center which has a beautiful old bridge and a part of the Olympic Discovery Trail ( bring or rent a bike!) All in all we loved our stay at Writers Retreat!

We had a terrific stay here - though the place is not spacious, I think there was enough space for 4 adult and 2 middle school kids - loved using the binoculars at the property to look out at the expansive view in the back - saw lots of deer. Would definitely want to stay here again!

The home has a great view of the mountains and we really enjoyed relaxing on the deck after our day full of activities. It is close enough to town but far enough away to be so quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed hiking, berry picking, shopping, etc. we were lucky enough to miss the heat wave so the weather was perfect. It would have been nice to have screens on more windows so we could enjoy the breeze in all rooms. Also as others have said the parking in the driveway is a little tight but we got used to it quickly. We will be back for sure!

This is a cozy little house located in a wonderful area. If you stay during clear days, the view is stunning and you will enjoy it and the back deck either way. We loved seeing the bald eagles nest and watching them fly around so near the back deck. The furniture in the living room could be more comfortable but we found the beds to be comfortable and the kitchen updated and usable. The location is very convenient for exploring Olympic national park and the surrounding area

The Writers Retreat is a cozy property with a incredibly scenic view and has all the amenities you need for a relaxing weekend. My four friends and I arent from the area but we were happy with how many hikes and food options there were. I definitely recommend this property to a couple trying to find a relaxing space or a group of friends looking to explore a new area. We will definitely be back at some point! Thank you again for having us.

Parking is tough if you have more than one vehicle, especially if they are trucks. Beautiful views, we saw a bald eagle circling and then perch at top of tree off the back deck, just stunning! Older place with a grandpas cabin feel, so dont expect fully updated modern amenities and furniture, but if youre the type that doesnt get hung up on that kind of stuff and can settle for just adequate amenities for the trade off of awesome views and super close proximity to Dungeness Golf Course, Olympic Game Farm, and the bay, then this is your place.

You cant go wrong with this place. The view is somehow even better than advertised. Theres a nice selection of books, DVDs, and games to keep you occupied if youre staying in on a rainy day. But its the peninsula. Dont stay in. Get out and enjoy it. But first make sure you grab those binoculars off the shelf and take a look at that eagle nest off straight out from the deck! Then curl up with the stove on and some Netflix for a relaxing evening. I cant imagine a better place to stay if youre coming to Sequim.
