Description
Welcome to Writers’ Retreat! This one of a kind cottage sits perched on a hillside offering sweeping vistas. The view over Sequim Valley, historic Lotzgesell Farm and the Olympic Mountain range make it unforgettable. This property and home will give you the ultimate ‘Sequim’ experience! Built in the 1920s, the cottage offers a wonderful country charm you just don't find in newer homes. Local novelist Rachel Bard purchased this house in the 1950s, lived and wrote here, producing several novels. The current owners made a few of these books available for your reading pleasure. Although it has since undergone extensive remodeling, the owners maintained the integrity of the home and the era when it was built. South facing windows make this very cozy home bright and welcoming. Details in the craftsmanship will take you back in time: warm rustic wood paneling throughout, charming tiled floors in the baths and turn of the century doors and knobs are some of the finishing touches that make this home special. The cottage has a queen master suite with attached bath. A queen room and bunk room with two twins share a nearby guest bath. This home sleeps four comfortably. The living room's large bookcase offers a variety of novels and games for you to enjoy, plus a TV and WI-FI for movie night. You will be drawn to the cozy window seat near the propane stove where you can catch up on your favorite novel or take pleasure in viewing the beautiful farmlands below. A charming country kitchen with breakfast bar overlooks the valley and mountains. Additional entertaining space on the large back deck is peaceful and secluded, just perfect for your summer barbeque. Outside you will find some unique landscaping including a beautiful towering madrona tree on the southwest corner of the house. Be prepared to hear wild animal sounds from the nearby Olympic Game Farm, open for daily driving tours. The cottage is centrally located for easy access to local parks and beaches, plus it is about 10 minutes to downtown Sequim. A very popular area for bird watching, cycling, kayaking, and more.

Loved the view of the house. Also liked the location as the house is walking distance from Olympic Game Farm which my kids love to go.

The Writer's Retreat is a lovely & cosy little cottage. The view is wonderful. I loved spending the mornings and evenings on the deck, sipping tea, watching coming and goings of the valley, including the eagles, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, ravens, and countless other birds. The house is warm and comfortable, and the kitchen big enough to cook our Thanksgiving meal for 3.

We just love the Writer's Cottage for its coziness and gorgeous view. Photos just can't capture how awesome it is to sit on the deck and take it all in. I especially appreciated Simone calling to make sure I got into the cottage okay. After a long, later-than-expected flight, it was also nice to see the cottage warmed up and lights on to welcome me.

Writers retreat is a stunningly scenic, comfortable, cozy and welcoming place. The location is unparalleled and the views are beyond belief. Its one of those places that the pictures actually dont even do it justice - its better than the pictures. Its also really well appointed, nicely maintained, and modern, yet rustic. I just cant say enough about it - thank you so much!

Lovely little cottage with a beautiful view. Has all the features that make it easy to share with extended family vacation. A pleasant kitchen to share with other people -- 3 of us were cooking at the same time and it didn't feel crowded. Great collection of books, including some local history, and board games to share. We stayed here during the COVID pandemic -- the house was clean & sanitary & it was clearly safe, which we especially appreciated!

Our second stay at the Writer's Cottage. While we found it a great respite from our daily craziness, it's still close enough to town. This property has oodles of charm and a stunning mountain view from the deck. Looking forward to a return visit when we can make it work out. Thanks so much for making this gracious home available to us!

Cute little house in a nice scenic spot, was a pleasant stay for our family of five. Bunk bed room was a tight squeeze, but worked out fine for smaller kids. Kitchen and family room area was very comfortable after a day on the beach or out hiking. Quick drive to Dungeness Spit or in to town for food.

I think people overlook Sequim as a destination spot, but we found the location perfect for my active birthday weekend. Because it was during the pandemic, we brought our food and used the well-stocked kitchen instead of going to restaurants. Believe me, when you get to this little cottage, you will want to eat ALL of your meals on the fantastic deck overlooking the valley and Olympic mountains. If you get bored with that view, you can zip down to the water and watch the sunset from the beach. The location is perfect if you want to access the Olympic Discovery Trail (we biked two days) or the Dungeness Spit (11 miles at low tide) or any of the surrounding towns. The cottage itself is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood and has a large living room, deck and grassy area for lounging. It's not fancy but super cute! The pics make it look very narrow but is surprisingly spacious and open. I could imagine renting it for a month and exploring the area. It really felt like home away from home (with a better view). We will be back! Thank you!

The pictures for Writer's Retreat do not do the place justice. The view from the deck is truly spectacular. Every evening we'd see a family of deer come out to graze on the field below. What a sight. The inside of the house is so cute, warm and "homey" that you instantly fall in love with the place. Bed and bath linen were top notch and the whole place was sparkling clean. We felt very comfortable "moving in" even during the stressful COVID times. The place was perfect for two adult couples as the bed and bath rooms are in different ends of the house. The kitchen was spacious enough for people to maintain social distance during meal preparation. We were sad to leave. Writer's Retreat is truly a special and amazing place to be on vacation.

Loved staying in this little cottage with views of the valley. Very comfortable if not a touch dated and shabby. Beds were comfortable. Bunk bed room very small so adequate for small children but not teenagers. Kitchen fairly well stocked. Good selection of games. Would have liked to have had a blender in the kitchen.

Stayed in town for work. Great views. Bald eagle nesting right off the back deck. Wish there was a washer and dryer, but that wasn't worth docking a star. Really cool spot with easy access to everything.

It was exactly what we wanted: quiet, cozy and comfortable. It was more space than just two of us needed, but I would definitely consider returning.
